Have No Fear, FishFraud Is Still Here!

Thank you for the many emails expressing concern that  FishFraud was somehow discovered and murdered by Steven Frischling! Not true, no worries! We've simply been busy with nonFishFraud-related activities. Perhaps we are accountants preparing for Tax Day. Or we were busy training for and winning the Masters. Or we play for the Boston Red Sox and it's baseball season again!

More content coming soon... we've only begun to scratch the surface of freakdom!

Last week I was asked to join the board of advisors for a corporate jet operator ... wonder what this week has in store for me.

  9. The Simpliflying guys do a lot of the same thing. Self promotion, know-it-all statements, airline fanboys who have not worked a day at an airline, make bogus client citations and suddenly think they are industry experts because they tweet about it all day. They are made for each other.

  10. The SimpliFlying folks and SF should get along very well, based on their poorly-written release (below). Or maybe SF wrote it? Seriously, this comes off as something a fifth grader may write. (Twitter alternately capitalized and not capitalized, 'Top' capitalized for no reason, generally poor flow to the write-up)

AIRLINES ON TWITTER – OH…THE STORIES DATA TELLS

While you drool over the data in the infographic below, I thought I’d highlight some interesting stories, which may not stand out on first glance:
You’ll see that twitter use among airlines is spread out globally – with Top four airlines featuring Delta, TAM Brazil and AirAsia (Malaysia!)
While there are 168 airlines on twitter, only 77 are actively tweeting, and 80% of all tweets come from just 30 airlines (17%)!
While Delta Airlines replies to the most number of tweets, it’s AirAsia that replies to the largest percentage of tweets to an airline – over 40% of tweets are replied to – that’s some serious effort, and this is way above the industry average of 24%
While customer service is the most important function being addressed on Twitter (due to its real-time nature), it’s comfort & security that’s on the rise – remember how @TimF10 was helping American Airlines passengers with security setup at AA terminal at LAX?
Long-haul low-cost carrier AirAsia X has come out ahead of legacy carriers like Cathay Pacific and Asiana in the quality of customer service provided on Twitter. And it’s Azul from Brazil that’s leading in the “comfort and security” space.
The conclusion from all this – twitter use is on the rise. Some airlines are adapting quickly to travelers’ increased use of social technologies. But not all have a strategy for this, and we’ll figure out in the upcoming months who are the flukes and who are the real deal.
    Exciting times!

    ReplyDelete
  11. WTF, I guess the assertion is that the more you tweet, the better the airline you are? Thats just like Steven Frischling himself thinking that tweeting constantly = goodness.

The conclusion is that twitter use is on the rise? DUH!

Wrap this all up in a pretty infographic to hide the fact that there is no information of any substance.

  12. another stupid flying with fish blog post that is riddled with typos and errors. this one is about the a380 collision at jfk.

    here are some excerpts.

"...and sometimes stark reminders of how dangerous airport taxiways interrupt the perfectly choreographed movements of airplanes that appear to be effortless and ramps can be."

"Yesterday evening as Comair’s Delta Connection Flight 6293, a Bombardier CRJ-700 (CR7), taxied proceeded on JFK’s Taxiway Mike towards its gate at Terminal 2, following a short flight from Boston; the routine flight took an unexpected nearly 90º turn to the right."

"With the Airbus A380 on Taxiway Alpha, taxing on the centerline, its wingspan of 261.6 feet should not have extended beyond the 284 foot width of Taxiway Alpha."

    - TAXING? hey airline expert, it's spelled TAXIING.

"For those of you wondering how one commercial jet airliner can spin another commercial jet airliner around like a toy, here is how these two aircraft aircraft compare to one another strictly by the numbers:"

just because the incident had two aircraft involved, doesn't mean that you need to write aircraft twice.

  33. Here is some classic Steven Frischling of which he wrote three different versions of this incident for those poor folks over on the Sportsshooter message board. He should have just cut and pasted the first version to help him keep the stories straight.

Sportsshooter thread #1503 in 2003 - "About five minutes into my working from my second position I notice my car is now surrounded by four patrol cars, and about six officers, two more are rapidly advancing on me as I shot from the pier.
The officers demanded Susannah's licenses and wanted to search the car for any cameras. Susannah informed them I was a news photographer, and any of the cameras from the car were with me (I was hard to miss with a 300f2.8 and 400f2.8 alone at the end of a pier). As the officers approached me they had their hands on their unflapped holsters, and ordered me to stop. I identified myself, and again was ordered to stop, so I did. As the officers allowed me to put my gear down and get my credentials out I noticed a live truck, and TV station Explorer pulling in behind the four cruisers surrounding my car."

Sportsshooter thread #10755 in 2004 - "I was shooting a business story on the sale of a number of fuel farm storage tanks in New Haven. These tanks are very visible from I-95 & I-91. They are open to the waterways, side roads, hotels, interstate which cut through New Haven. Prior to shooting this fuel farm I called the USCG PIO for Division 1, and the New Haven Police. I told them what I was doing, trying to head off a problem. While shooting I turned around and saw a new van pull into the parking lot, along the Long Island Sound, I was parked in. I then saw a number of NHPD, DOD Police and a Conn State Police cruiser pull into the lot. They surrounded my wife as she tried to read a book for school demanding to know if there were cameras in the car. She said no, they ordered her out of the car, she told them I had the cameras (I was holding a 300f2.8, 400f2.8, 70-200f2.8 and 17-35f2.9, and a Hawaiian shirt on the end of a public pier, not trying to hide). One officer approached me very quickly, his hand at his side and his holder unflapped, although the gun was in the holster. This cop ordered me down, I kept walking asking him what the hell was going on. He demanded my credentials, I told him that Connecticut issues no credentials, and asked what I would do if I only worked in CT with no credentials. After some back and forth I handed him my credentials, they called and verified the credentials with the NYPD, Mass State PD and US Senate. The cops kept telling me the massive fuel farm was a target and needed to know where the photos would appear, I told them I was shooting for a news service with about 1,200 daily newspaper clients. The cop said that was fine as long as they were "legit" newspapers. He then began to tell me that I should not be so elusive when shooting (again, two long lenses, and a Hawaiian shirt). "

Sportsshooter thread #29618 in 2008 - "At some point I noticed my wife's '83 bright yellow Volvo surrounded by cops demanding to know where there camera were. She pointed to me and cops from the NHPD, State Police and DOD Police came at me. One office, an NHPD Lt., had his weapon out of the holster screaming at me demanding to know why I was trying to hide."

Anyway, I refused to release my control of the patient until someone of equal or higher certification arrived. I was threatened with arrest for some made up charge ( I think it was being a non-qualified rescuer interfering with an MVA...they contested that since I arrived as a news photog I had no right to touch the victim). Anyway, it was sorted out quickly, while I still had control of the victim. Since I was in the car and the patient was pinned I missed most photos, not releasing the victim until he was secured to a KED and the roof was removed. "

No loss of power, no flooding, even I-95 being closed after a three tractor trailer MVA was totally unrelated to the storm. Someone called out Steven on Twitter about his hurricane picture that he says he took 5-10 minutes before a hurricane hit Atlantic City. Steven said it was Hurricane Frances in 2004. @thehamblogger pointed out that Hurricane Frances hit Florida and by the time it traveled up past New Jersey it wasn't called a hurricane anymore and posted this link to NOAA map that showed that it was pretty weak once it was in the region of Atlantic City http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW2/english/history/frances_2004_map.gif

    Steven's response to that was...

    "flyingwithfish Flying With Fish
@thehamblogger It was considered a hurricane according to the writers, all I remember at this point & the moments before & after the photo"

That link that @hamblogger posted shows that Hurricane Frances almost immediately turned into a tropical depression after making landfall and weakened even further as it traveled north. I doubt that any "writer" would continue calling it a hurricane. But I guess in the mind of Steven Frischling, it was the storm of a lifetime and made for a more sensationalized story for his Twitter followers. Good job @hamblogger for digging up the real story.

  71. Steven Frischling makes up yet another story about his one and only trip to Iraq, where he spent a whopping 4 hours at the Basra airport.

In a FlyerTalk thread about using phones on airplanes, he tells how his "clients" were so hungry for the photos of Richard Branson dropping of humanitarian aid that they told him to send the photos using the air phone on the plane that produced bills well over $500. Really? clients would pay ridiculous rates like that for pictures of a PR junket? Maybe if the client was Virgin, then maybe. But, as Frischling has mentioned before, he was working for Bloomberg when he went on the Virgin/Iraq trip.

    http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-canada-aeroplan/581481-does-anyone-ever-use-onboard-bell-mobility-phones-3.html#post6134559

“I have used the phones on Delta and Virgin Atlantic to transmit photos. My clients were willing to pay the absolutely insane fees for me hooking up my laptop to transmit deadline images back to them as I traveled. The DL flights were from SFO to JFK and FLL to JFK. The Virgin flights were after traveling with Richard Branson to Basrah, Iraq, on a humanitarian aid mission, on the flight from Basrah to Kuwait City, and again on the flight from Kuwait City to Heathrow. I also have transmitted photos via VS's airphone on a flight from LHR to JFK following a riot in London back in 2003. Each time the bills were well over $500...........but it's what my clients wanted and they were paying the bills.”

First, here is a contradictory story from Sports Shooter -
    http://www.sportsshooter.com/message_display.html?tid=1874

“In the end it is a time saver. I had to dial up and connect from a local London number when I landed at Heathrow, I let one laptop do my shipping, which was slow (a 28.8 connection from the phone line I was able to borrow in a closed terminal), so the other could do my editing in Photo Mechanic and Photoshop."
"I knew the inflight entertainment system would be off in flight, only switched on when on the ground, so there would be no power from the seats with the power supply I use on planes. A few photogs used my power supply on the ground to get plugged in, I chose to spend all my time out shooting.

My set up was really planning for shooting, editing and shipping from a satalite phone from Basra. The sat phone did not arrive in time for me to get it, so my planning and deadlines were messed up anyway.”

Also, in that same FlyerTalk post he says that he also transmitted photos of a riot for his "client" on a Virgin flight FROM London (LHR) to JFK in 2003. He has advertised several times that he shot the “riot in London” on his way TO the Branson PR junket in Iraq so that would have been impossible unless he flew home and back just to file the pictures of the riot and rack up a $500 bill for his “client” Here is a quote from Sports Shooter on 6/7/09.

“Back in 2003 I used a layover in London to get out and photograph a riot and catch my connecting flight to the Middle East :0)” http://www.sportsshooter.com/message_display.html?tid=33271

  76. So I've given this some thought tonight: we'll never see a "I admit I'm a fraud" from Fish. He's in a hole so deep that the only way for him isn't up to the sunlight, it's deeper. He's doubling down on his own bullshit. It's so deep that nothing would surprise me anymore. If Fish said that he rescued a baby during 9/11 while driving 300 mph down from wherever he is to Ground Zero while talking with the Flight 93 crew telling them "Let's Roll" - all while shooting award winning photos that you can't find on the internet today - I'd put it within the realm of his depravity.

This whole reinvention as a travel/social media expert is hilarious. Of course his shenanigans would attract Randy Petersen on Flyertalk - Flyertalk's a place where sociopaths thrive in large numbers. They, like Fish, talk about travel like they've "earned" it the hard way when it's on someone else's dollar. And where there's sociopaths, there's room to grow with your lies. Randy eats that shit up, and thinks that Fish is this impressive globe trotting photographer (yes, I think he's that deluded.)

  78. I wrote to Randy. Long story short, Randy has no intention of removing SF from BoardingArea. He makes no defense, no arguments and has no opinion regarding the truthfulness of SF's ramblings. Randy just explains that he's never met him, and that SF would go somewhere else if removed from BA, and that SF has some disagreement with some person which is none of his business. Wasn't SF "hand selected" for quality, timeliness, and entertainment value?" Perhaps "entertainment value" is a license to bullshit without consequence.

    ReplyDelete
  79. 5:52: Randy is probably not interested since Steven Frischling probably manages to draw traffic to the site. Its all about the numbers.

This is the new world of blogging. The problem is that people mistake it for real journalism. Its a perfect world for Steven Frischling since he does things most honest people won't do. So on 3/7/03 it's 50 trucks and he said no.

On 5/26/03, it has shrunk to 35 (perhaps the only time in SF's life that the story shrinks rather than expands in its exaggeration.} Not sure if he says yes or no this time.

On 11/25/03 Coke is using his images - apparently with permission. (Don't see anywhere where he addresses the issue of model releases.)

On 9/25/07, they're now stealing his images and he's getting paid for the infringement - though to give SF the benefit of the doubt, he doesn't say they were Coke trucks.

Airlines do it all the time for many reasons including adjusting their balance sheet, taking advantage of international tax arbitrage opportunities, adjust depreciation expense vs. operating costs. The reasons are many, and they are often done one aircraft at a time.

  127. I think it would have done Steven Frischling some good to have taken his father's advice and finished reading the book.

"Many times in my life my father encouraged me to read Dale Carnegie’s “How To Win Friends and Influence People,” and while I’ve never quite finished the book, many of the basic principals of the book have carried over to building corporate social media engagement."

  128. Alright, I am a dunce but I just don't get how someone who has failed so blatantly on "building" his own personal "social media engagement" would be a go to consultant for businesses interested in "building corporate social media engagement"? Seriously after seeing all of his claptrap posted here by those three very hardworking people, who in their right mind would hire this guy?

    ReplyDelete
  129. To hire this guy, it would have to be someone with zero knowledge of social media. Anybody with half-ass sense would have spent 5 minutes to google Steven Frischling to find out that he himself needs a some help in "building social media engagement"

  131. On April 29, 2011 Steven Frischling wrote this in his blahg:
"no company should refer to themselves in the third person, posing as a customer gushing about their product or service"

Given how many times we have seen him resort to this very tactic on blogs and in responses to his negative wedding photography ratings, clearly he is now giving truly "expert" advice based on his own experience. After all it didn't work very well for him or the mother of his poor children.
Go and read his blog entry that day on SM and ask yourself if this is what he thinks is constructive blog posting is about, how would he function with a real client in a consulting situation. Imagine him offering some sage advice and that client's assistant rushing in, tablet in hand, to eagerly show the boss an example of Frischling making a fool of himself on the internet by engaging in the same bad SM behavior he is trying wean his client from.

  132. I am surprised he hasnt stated yet that he was in on the oparation to get Bin Laden. Or maybe its the time difference between CONUS and Pakistan that is holding him back

  133. Frischling's tweets are as frequent and pointless as those of my 15-year-old niece.

  134. This just in: A seceret US agent Code-Name FISH lead a determined Seal Team Six into Pakistan to eliminate UBL. Utilizing his Long Island Search and Rescue team training- FISH was able to extricate UBL from a walled compound with a rescue saw and then summarily executed him with a Halligan tool to the side of the head. Seal-team members credit FISH with making the entire event possible thru his Intel gathering activities garnered thru his billions of miles of air travel. "I just happened to be doing some wideangle shots on a compound in Abbottabad, Pak when I saw UBL on the front porch smoking a bong," FISH is reported to have exclaimed...

The Pentagon reported that agent FISH has badly injured by a female bodyguard defending UBL- having both his arms and legs broken AND taking 37.5 bullets to his head from the 85 lbs. stewardess turned Islamist enforcer.

FISH was further injured when his bird crashed on the extrication- but was able to pull all of the flight crew to safety while realizing his KLM air ambulance flight from Islamabad to Amsterdam to pick up more LSD was currently boarding. According to KLM- Globe-hopping extraordinaire FISH was able to board Flt. 20882 and even completed three photo shoots enroute to Europe by using a bite-equipped remote to control 96 cameras simaltaneously across the Mideast. President Obama and SportsShooters own Jim Colburn are due to present the Presidential Award for Retardedness in a gala Rose Garden ceremony next week.

That's right Steve -we're still here. I must be the fourth shooter on the grassy knoll, ehh?

  135. @10:11... as the fifth contributor to this excitingly revealing saga, I have to say that was bloody funny. And probably true. We'll just have to wait and read Fishy's Fishy Blogtime stories.

  140. There's plenty of Frischling bullshit all over the internets to do your own research. Find some and contribute. Lord knows, there's no end to this guy's crap - and he's been proud to spread enough around for everyone, and surprise, he continues to do so. Some of the best stuff comes from this blog's readers who won't put up with his bullshit.

    ReplyDelete
  141. If he were in jail for exposing Fish using illegal means- this blog would already be down. I can promise you- if this blog goes down- I will restart it myself for the good of mankind!

In March, after wading into this morass- FISH attempted to probe my home and business networks as soon as I posted and then started creating dummy web accts to give me bad customer reviews... to make it look like our clients were as unhappy as HIS. To the owners of the sites or groups that have tossed him out but remained silent as-to-why... shame on you. Your silence has allowed this to continue. FISH will do whatever is necessary to ensure his survivability at-all-costs- and unwittingly, you continue to aid him with your silence as the organizations of record that FISH cloaks himself in.
That the so-called kings of the photo industry will banter with this guy on a variety of business topics throughout the blogosphere for nearly the past two decades- but have pretty much gone silent in their self-policing role (or had to go underground to protect themselves from the avatar of Veangeful Fish) leaves me shaking my head.
One final note: F$@K you Steve.

  143. Dedicated readers will recall that FF was absent for several months once before - then returned with even more damaging material - and the contributions from the wedding, photography and travel industry continued. Nothing mysterious behind being absent for awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  144. As an early and dedicated FF fan, I'm certainly understanding of FF's needs and history of occasional absences, however that does not make it any easier for us of have become addicted. On the flip side, when FF is on full stream, sometimes its just too much to take at one time.

  149. Wait - he's back on sports shooter? I thought he would have had shame about coming back on there after his "career" is over.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Yes, he still lurks on SportsShooter. Someone made a funny Fish reference in a thread and received an "inappropriate" tag for the comment. There is only one person in the world who would mark it inappropriate.

    Third comment: http://www.sportsshooter.com/message_display.html?tid=38220

  151. Damn. Deep inside I was wishing that the good people at SportsShooter.com had banned him from logging in and posting on the site.

    ReplyDelete
  152. The SportsShooter hierarchy has made some strange decisions over the years abt who gets to remain a secret handshake member in good standing. They've allowed him to talk shit for a looooong time w/o calling him on it. Hell, I'll betcha if Fish starts posting garbage on SS agn... they will say NOTHING. Bravo to Vincent LaForet and Sam Morris for saying enough-is-enough; while the talking heads at SS debate Canon v. Nikon instead of HEY we have a pathological liar masquerading as a TweetDeck journalist who doubles as a Navy Seal/paramedic/salvage diver/etc... thats rich! (It was even worth the runon sentence!) We're still here FISH...

  153. May 16, 2011 9:53 AM, Don't forget Delane Rouse who also called him out on the message board after finding this site.

  154. Indeed, props to many of the professionals who spoke up. The travel industry will need theirs now. Randy obviously isn't one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Now he's selling his 85 1.2. "This is a fantastic lens, and I love it, but switched back to the 85f1.8 due to space and weight constraints in how I travel with gear."

How is he traveling now? On foot? We can only hope.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Re "The SportsShooter hierarchy", you have no idea what happens behind the scenes with a website in terms of administration of members. I'm sure if the sportsshooter admins could get rid of him, they would.

in other exciting news, i noticed today that if you do a search for 'steven frischling' on google, the fishfraud site comes up in #1 and #2 spots.

    congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  157. You must have a different Google than me, because the same search has Fish Fraud showing up 6th on my list.

  160. 10:58AM Not so sure abt that... I'm a Admin for a site. My word is law within MY domain. Ask Walter Calahan abt how an admin can crowbar you while youre playing in their cyber-spac over a technical issue not involving deception, outright fraud, and sinister attempts to silence your critics- which IS what we're talking abt here with FISH. Just sayin' the SS admins decided to protect their turf over whether a photo was galleried by Walt or linked to properly. A pure technicality. No malfeasance involved. Your gonna claim they have no way to dump the Fish Douche to strengthen the community at-large? What Would Steven do? Sue SportsShooter so all this could come out in a civil trial? Ridiculous lvls of non-parity in decision making don't encourage the public into thinking you're better journalists...

SO can anyone find these images on the web? Steven, since you so "rule" could you please direct us to the IOC web site on which your images, accompanied by the credit you so richly deserve.

If you can't, then you don't "rule"...

"You don't want to be the photog who's name can easily become a usable term that is understood within the industry."

    ReplyDelete
  167. I don't miss Fish at all at SS. Good riddance as far as I'm concerned. As for the "team" he lead in 2002, who exactly, did he "lead?" Where are they? How about some names Fish? Surely you remember these "photogs." Anyone out there remember this team? I've never heard anyone mention the work Fish is talking about.

  172. ^ Not that I know of. He's mud in the photo industry. "Listen up photogs!" Yeah right. No one gives a shit what he has to say - not a soul I know believes anything that comes out of his mouth. He had to give up his beloved pulpit at SS. He could have done something about it, but didn't, and still somehow made it worse for himself by attacking others.
