Frischling lies about using vintage camera

Everyone's favorite authentic photographer Steven Frischling has tweeted at least two photos and claimed they were taken with a vintage Polaroid camera. Everyone knows Poloraids have that distinctive look, right? As always let's take a look at yet another claim that's so stupid any 8-year-old could debunk it.

Photo 1: Fenway Park

Photo 2: Arad Fort, Bahrain

So how do we know this is a lie? First of all, anyone who has ever used a Polaroid camera knows they come out very clean with a nice white border. Yet Frischling's photos both have a rough edge. It is possible, theoretically, that he achieved this look doing a Polaroid transfer like this.

Except that both of the have the identical rough edge, which is, for all intents and purposes, fucking impossible. Note that with the Arad photo, he claims it was taken "long before Instagram" and its popular vintage filters, so these are not digitally added borders, he seems to be saying.

Oh my my my what is this that we have here? Why it's a site where you can download a Photoshop file to make your own fun and vintage to pretend! Go to http://pshero.com/goodies/photo-borders/polaroid-giant-format-photo-border to get the border he used yourself:

So what's the deal here Frischling? You've been caught in another lie. What is your excuse? Were you embarrassed about the quality of your photos? Do you truly believe that real professional photographers can't spot your bullshit? Or do you get some kind of special thrill duping travel enthusiasts on Twitter?

PS Here's a good photo of Arad, courtesy of Jun Manabat Photography on Flickr:

  1. He is the gift that keeps on giving. All his lies and exploits need to be archived for posterity in a Chris Chan-style wiki. He needs an Encyclopedia Dramatica article stat.

  2. It's "for all intents and purposes" not "intensive purposes." But other than that, nice find!

  3. He's not a professional photographer. He's some guy with cameras who has been laughed out of the profession. He was a joke on Sportsshooter and decided to move onto travel and "weddings" and got laughed out of it.

Here's the Fish challenge: He's a guy who has a lot of stuff from "travels" and must live like a packrat with stuff he's accumulated throughout the years. It would reason to believe that if he's been to certain places, he'd still have the boarding pass. Prove it, Fishdick.

  4. "In 2005 I flew (last time I checked for some research) 127 red-eye flights, nearly all were domestic. Outside of 2005 I have not kept track at all."

    1. What's the deal with FlyerTalk? Do they people there know he's a fraud?

    2. The problem with Flyertalk is that there are a lot of compulsive liars and sociopaths earning miles on their company's dime, so they are just as bad as this guy.

    3. He worked at CRN in 2005 (what did he last, six months?) but no way he did that many red-eye flights. That is one red-eye every 2-3 days. That's the funniest thing about this fucktard. He doesn't even make up believable lies.

  5. 127 redeyes in a calendar year? Bullshit. He hasn't done 127 segments in a calendar year.

    1. When did he supposedly work for CRN? Didn't he scam them by getting them to pay for flights just to rack up miles?

  6. I find it strange that the former President of the NPPA, Sean Elliot, uses him as a freelancer at the New London Day in New London, CT. When it comes to lies and questionable ethics of this fauxtographer, John Long must be horrified.

    1. I totally agree. Sean is a very talented photographer who seems to have his head on straight. It's a mystery why he gives him work OR buys any of his lame spot news photos.

  7. Before he was laughed out of sports shooter he was taking the time to badmouth pulitzer winners on the photo forums of America Online...
