Photographer to Frischling: "You sir, are a fucking mess"

Wow. The following comment just came in, and we had to give it its own post.
Steven,

I don't know if this message will find its way to you via this blog or not, but it seems as if you are an active participant on the comments so I thought this might be the best venue to address you. I'm not doing it on SportsShooter, which is more (usually) professional.

Long ago I decided to not pay much attention to you on the SS message boards because you seemed like a braggart and a person too full of himself to take seriously. This was just from reading what you had posted. I always reserved the benefit of the doubt about you, but I had decided to take what you posted with a grain of salt.

I was sent this site a few months ago, perused the top few entries and had a laugh. It's just natural, right? After what I had read, I still may have defended you if I had met you or had you offered a defense. I have neither experienced meeting you in person nor have I heard or read a defense.

But then you made some pissy comment to Bert Hanashiro, someone who has done so much for the photojournalism community, on the message board of SS (http://www.sportsshooter.com/message_display.html?tid=37765), I thought I would look back into this site. And I read it from start to finish.

You sir, are a fucking mess. I know others have handled you with kid gloves and remained anonymous on this site, but I am not willing to do that. You are not only fucking over wedding clients by not delivering on what you agreed, you are also besmirching my profession and possibly giving people a reason to question me just because I am a photojournalist.

Here is my email address: sam('at')lasvegassun.com

I would like you to answer to the charges put forth in this blog and back it up with proof.

I don't play games like you and the owners of this blog do, but unless I have some evidence to counter these claims, I will fight when necessary to protect my industry and my reputation as a journalist.

Signed,

Sam Morris
A public challenge has been extended. Will Steven have the balls that Sam does and respond? Will the world finally get to see his photos of the Iraqi war zones he claimed he was in? Will he tell us where and when he deserved the right to call himself a firefighter? What was the name of the companies that sponsored him when he was a snowboarding champion in his youth?

PS Read the thread, and you will see Steven never apologized to Mr. Hanashiro.

  1. Check out this sob story.

"My son is almost three. He had a severe "incident" with the mohel (rabbi) at his bris (circumcision). As a result my son had to undergo major reconstructive surgery at two weeks old. As a result of this, there is addition surgery he may need to undergo when his body hits puberty as a result of the skin grafts to place the skin back on the shaft of his penis.

While we have lawyers working on the already incurred medical bills , they are hesitant to file any law suit until my son is 16. Under the law with this type of injury and the age of the injured party of the injury at the time it happened we have 18 years to file the law suit."

  2. too much information. One day his son is going to read this on the net. Why in the hell would you share this kind of thing in public?

  3. "While we have lawyers working on the already incurred medical bills , they are hesitant to file any law suit until my son is 16"

WHAT? Who would wait 13 years to file a lawsuit for a botched circumcision? One that was so botched it required "major reconstructive surgery" and possible problems for years to come?

He implies it was done in a religious ceremony too and not in a hospital right after birth. So who are they going to sue in 13 years? A guy who might be dead? Bankrupt? Nowhere to be found?

If this were true, it would be a slam-dunk case for a very large and very quick settlement. No decent lawyer would recommend waiting 10+ years.

  5. I'm not trying to take anything away from Sam's effort, but hasn't Frischling seen this before? Hasn't a long string of photographers tried to straighten him out and gotten nowhere? He's also been sued in court. That didn't help either.

  6. Bravo Sam Morris!

Photographers have been calling BS on Frischling for years. From 14 years ago:

  7. All this talk of a Jewish ritual circumcision and then those pictures of kids at Christmas? How odd is that? So confusing. So Fish.

  8. Frischling was just as popular in 1997 as he is today. A direct quote from the link provided by 5:53

"Unfortunately for most who enjoyed those discussions, a very small minority of posters (does the name FishFoto ring anyone's memories??) brought that forum to its knees and eventually forced out most, if not all, of the best and brightest contributors. They got fed up dealing with the juvenile "me-too" responses and meaningless blather about chasing fires, perp walks and press credential numbers. That level of discussion from the leaders of our field in one public area is a resource that we will probably never have"
    again. "

  13. Very surprised the LAS VEGAS SUN and GREENSPUN MEDIA GROUP would want to get involved in this.

    ReplyDelete
  14. "One of the Top 5 most trusted authorities in online travel"

I'd like to see the criteria used to make such an assertion.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It might not be them so much as just Sam.

    ReplyDelete
  16. But still, they are his employer and his LAS VEGAS SUN email on this site can't make them too happy. I would doubt they would want to be dragged into this fight or associated with it in any way. Fine line at best.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Does the email address make them an accessory? I'm asking in the spirit of learning here - don't get me wrong, it's just a question. Sam used their address, that's true. Do Steven's transgressions merit a story? He, a "journalist," may very well have fabricated interviews with TSA agents and tried to get them published - that would seem newsworthy to me.

    ReplyDelete
  18. What did we expect - this is classic Frischling - lash out at everyone around you when you're cornered. He does this every time. He's not operating with logic and reason - he has none. And I'm not saying that to be mean. The last thing he is capable of is self reflection and personal responsibility.

    ReplyDelete
  19. My god, someone asks a question here and the poop hits the fan. Really? And how can anyone conclude that anyone is threatening anyone here. What are you people afraid of? Relax, its Friday!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Friday is Make Fun of Frischling Day! Good question though - how much is going on over Sam's letter outside of this blog. Now THAT would make interesting reading.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Back to the other post.

Wouldn't know about the accessory but I know my employer would not be too thrilled to have its name mentioned here. Questions whether he is speaking for the LAS VEGAS SUN. If not, why not just use his own personal e-mail.

Did he write this on company time? Is he indeed speaking for GREENSPUN MEDIA GROUP and dropping the f* bomb? By using the LAS VEGAS SUN email, is he representing them? Too many questions that I'm sure they do not need to deal with.

Employers are always looking for ways to mess with one's employment.

And btw, I'm not SF, so take a breath.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I really doubt they care. Or maybe they are even proud of him for taking on this guy who is embarrassing the entire industry.

No doubt, he has a solid reputation and is respected (unlike Steven Frischling).

    ReplyDelete
  23. Easy to tell the difference - you're thinking through an issue.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Really Steven/Susannah? You read that entire letter and all that stuck with you was his email address?

Why don't you reread it and actually respond to his very serious message?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I won't speak for 11:32, but I've been a professional photographer for 15 or so years, and I've been watching this clown poisoning our profession, insulting real working soldiers and journalists, and suggesting dangerous and illegal behavior. He has possibly ruined the wedding days of who knows how many couples. Then he has the nerve to lash out at innocent people. Yes, that's why people are pissed.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Here we go again. Really? Is the moderator behind all this negativity? As mentioned in prior posts, relax, it's good for the mind and body.

And sorry, I am neither Steven nor Susannah. Very sorry if that disappoints you. But after reading this blog, I'm beginning to think some people here may have some serious issues with their own lives, sorry.

Have a great Friday, enjoy the weather! I know I will.

So sorry some of you hate life so much that you feel the need to dump on others. But so be it. And ya wonder why this biz is sinking quicker than the Titanic.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I couldn't give a shit who you are. That said, you're entitled to whatever you have a mind to think.

  28. Stop arguing with FISH. He is just too smart. He is so much better than anyone in the industry. Don't you know?
Forget air travel, in fact, I have it on good authority that he sold the Wright Brothers his design to use for the very first successful airplane. Unfortunately he lost the contract while snowboarding down Mt. Everest, racing to put out a fire in a local village.
    For shame. For shame.

    ReplyDelete
  29. "I couldn't give a shit who you are."

Wow, thank you, you are more than kind. Ya really wanna go there? Anger management, perhaps.

And by the way, is this all you people can do is try and discredit someone by calling them FISH? Again, I am not FISH but could be if that really turns you on!

    Have a nice day!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Sorry, it matters not a wit to me who you are.

You a bit condescending. But you're right, it is a very nice day outside. And if that's so important to you, why are you still here?

  31. Actually reading some of this trash here, I see how now the moderator is now going after Jews. Several headlines ago it was Blacks. What is next, Asian, Hispanics?

And some of you call yourselves Journalists? Really, who needs to see the anti-Semitic statements and cross-burning here. Scary!

Again, sorry to disappoint the moderator, but I'm not SF.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Why is he still here? He's trying his hardest to distract everyone as much as possible from the actual subject at hand - that Frischling was just ripped by a respected industry professional.

    and he's failing miserably.

    ReplyDelete
  33. This is so laughable. I'm Jewish. There's not one syllable, not one word, anywhere on this blog that supports what you're saying. Please, if you have nothing to add, go outside, enjoy the day.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 12:24, if you are not FISH, then you are even worse. The only person dumber than Steven are those who believe his lies and choose to stand up for such a fool.

But Steven, really, you know full well it's really easy to say whatever you want on the internet.
I AM the easter bunny. I AM the easter bunny.
See? Now that I've typed that, everyone should just really believe me, or else.
For those of you who don't, well, you're a bunch of morons.

  41. Fish (aka Walter Mitty).

I'm a photographer that you have known for at least fifteen years and someone who's work I think you respect. If you really believe that there are only a few people watching this site, then you're more delusional than I ever dreamed. I don't know anyone in our industry that hasn't seen what's going on here.

If it were my reputation being attacked like this, I'd be doing everything that I could to refute the allegations, but instead all you do is attack the messenger with nonsensical rants. If this stuff isn't true, then why don't you stand up like a man and defend yourself instead of attacking this blogger and every other person that you think might be involved? Eventually you might be able to make this site go away, but its contents will live forever.

As I said, I've known you for quite a while. I was one of the 1,000 or so people that was sent a picture of you in mid maturb about 10 years ago. While I won't be giving it to this blogger, it's only a matter of time before someone decides that they have heard enough of your bullshit and does (if they haven't already).

I'll tell you what. If you can answer seven simple questions to my satisfaction, I'll stop coming to this site (I currently hit it about 20 times a day) and I would imagine much of this heat will come off of you.

    1. Concerning the photograph of you holding your cock. You're explanation was that the photograph was "NOT sent from, and is NOT of me, aside from the face in the photo. The photo is a Photoshop creation." Really? Then please explain why there is an darkroom enlarger and light table with film on it in the background? Was that another photographer with his cock in his hand that someone Photoshopped your face on to? I had always suspected you were full of shit, but this really cinched it for me. I could have almost believed that your ex girlfriend, who you said is also a "hacker", sent this picture out to the list, but did you really think other professional photographers wouldn't notice what's in the background? Do you really think that everyone is as gullible as the few other imbeciles that follow you around? I would call you a retard, but that would be an insult to retarded people. You clearly haven't the sense that God gave the common dog.

    2. Who sponsored you as a Super G Snowboarder from 1988-1991. Give me exact names, places and dates.

    3. You claim to have won awards in photojournalism. I've been in the business a very long time. I don't recall seeing you win any. Exactly what awards did you win in what contests and what dates? BTW, the blue ribbons that your mommy bought you don't count.

    4. You claim through your company "Shoreline Lifestyle Photography" to have been among the "Top 35 Wedding Photojournalists in the world by the Wedding Photojournalists Association." Somehow, your name is nowhere to be found on their site even though they list the top 100 for the last eight years. Care to explain? If the claim doesn't refer to you, who does it refer to?

    5. Where were you ever an EMT/Firefighter? Give me the city, department and dates. Show me proof of your certification.

    6. You claim to have been at ground zero when buildings fell in front of you and even had a camera knocked out of your hand by debris. Show me pictures and explain how you went 200 miles to get to ground zero in one hour.

    7. Where are this bride's wedding pictures? Why haven't you made good on your contract and why haven't you ever shown up in court to defend yourself against other lawsuits? Get these people their pictures or give them their money back or better yet, both. If all these accusations are true then you are not only destroying your reputation, but you're hurting our industry. Have you no decency? Have you no shame? Have you no conscience?

You have many avenues with which to answer these questions. Pick one.

    Continued in next post.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Personally, I don't know how you ever conned people into hiring you for anything. I don't think you're capable of finding your asshole with a funnel much less shoot a decent picture. I've got news for you, though. If you keep going the way you are, the guys you meet in prison won't have any problem finding it.

The best advice that I can give you is to tell the truth and admit what you've done. If not, I think it's inevitable that the infamous picture of you will end up on this site. What headline would you rather read, "Steven Frischling Comes Clean and Explains Himself" or the picture of you holding your cock with a headline above it that reads "Steven Frischling Cums Clean"? I think the choice is yours. It's all in your hands (pun intended).

PS. Stop posting on SportsShooter. No one gives a shit what you have to say.

While you're at it, maybe you can explain how it is that you were allegedly covering the 2002 winter olympics for the IOC as a "*Photo Team Leader/Editor/Photog" but were given permission to "**freelance as much as I wanted as long as it did not interfere with my work for the Olympic Committee." Covering the olympics is a marathon and I am sure the IOC would have the "photo team leader" running their ass off 24/7 for the entire duration of the games. But somehow you managed to do work for big clients like Monster.com, Kodak and NBC in your free time? What free time? I don't know a single photographer who has covered the olympics that has had any free time.

  50. Is this is case of undiagnosed munchausen syndrome?

    ReplyDelete
  51. WikiPedia (the irony):

Münchausen syndrome is a term for psychiatric disorders known as factitious disorders wherein those affected feign disease, illness, or psychological trauma in order to draw attention or sympathy to themselves. It is also sometimes known as hospital addiction syndrome or hospital hopper syndrome. Nurses sometimes refer to them as frequent flyers, because they return to the hospital just like frequent flyers return to the airport. However, there is discussion to reclassify them as somatoform disorder in the DSM-5 as it is unclear whether or not people are conscious of drawing attention to themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  52. it's a case of undiagnosed something. He is not mentally normal, no way no how.

  53. ...The syndrome name derives from Baron Münchhausen (Karl Friedrich Hieronymus Freiherr von Münchhausen, 1720–1797) who purportedly told many fantastic and impossible adventures about himself, which Rudolf Raspe later published as The Surprising Adventures of Baron Münchhausen.

"Now, I am not one to disbelieve someone claiming cancer, having seen first hand the suffering it causes, but he was still shooting engagement sessions and weddings in the same frequency as before the cancer! Still, I offered to take the pictures completely unedited, and skip any printing or the complimentary album Suzanna (his wife) offered (free, because of the delays). This would have meant a maximum 1/2 hour burning the pictures to disc and dropping in the mail. Steven could not be bothered to respond to these suggestions/accommodations either (even though he was still working, and maintaining a blog with near daily entries, that certainly took more time and energy than burning a disc)."

    CANCER?!

  62. ^We posted every single Yelp review early on.

Yes, he claimed he had cancer. But he only told this to clients who were trying to get their photos and albums. He never mentioned it on his blog, in any forum, etc then or since.

Rather odd don't you think? Especially considering he blabs every single inappropriate detail of his life on Sportsshooter, such as his claim of being sexually molested or his son's botched circumcision.

  69. This is a Sportsshooter post I run into occasionally:
    http://www.sportsshooter.com/message_display.html?tid=37194

Maybe the point was to talk about why he doesn't shoot sports anymore, to me it reads instead like a resume - he manages to mention in this one entry - the NFL, NCAA Div I, two pro leagues, and MLB. Then someone takes him to task for getting his resume wrong. Then he reads a letter from another photographer asking for advice - and in THAT letter he takes the time to rattle off more achievements. THIS is what's annoying about having Fish on these forums.

  70. "The client I used to shoot the other 15% of my NFL games for, at a rate of $750 a game no gets all its images from stock agencies"

yeah, right. hahahahaha. Corbis didn't pay you anything except a cut IF your lame ass pictures ever sold. your notion that you were a "contract" photographer is beyond silly. sure, you probably signed a contract to establish the split on sales but you were NOT on a contract, like ones that real photographers get that guarantees a certain number of days per month.

"The wire service I covered the Red Sox for, for a few seasons, no longer has anyone covering regularly covering the MLB, much less a specific team"

the wire service called UPI has been dead in the water for a long time and you didn't actually cover the whole season, just a few games here and there and ONE world series game. you're such an idiot that you probably did it all on spec.

  97. I have shot 414 weddings in 12 years. That's not a made up number but an actual accounting. I say this only to establish that I have, after all this time, a pretty good handle on the way things work. The scenario Steven describes below is so fantastical that I nearly choked on the piece of toast I was munching on. (I'd love to meet your assistant from that Versailles wedding. What's that? You shot it alone? But of course.) To match this feat of bragging with the cached Yelp listing of Steven's inability to deliver one actual album to a client makes me gag even more.

I have no idea who screens emails sent to that address, but they passed it along to me with no comment. Basically is said I posted a dirty word on a blog, they were surprised and employee of the Sun would post such a thing and they hope the Sun and GMG do not condone that sort of behavior.
